The Mobile Countdown

MobileFrom Google’s Webmaster Central Blog: “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.” In other words, make the necessary changes to your website or risk losing rankings.

With this new update of Google’s online ranking signal, mobile friendly websites are going to benefit greatly. Websites that have been designed and constructed with a mobile friendly platform are going to rank at a higher level, without necessarily having to do anything. The new update is designed to push web design into the already ongoing change of mobile “dominance”.  It is also important to remember that although some pages of your website may be mobile friendly, some of them may not and those pages that are not mobile friendly will be affected in the rankings with the upcoming update.

If you’re  not sure if your website is mobile friendly or not you can easily check through Google’s Developers analysis (Click here to read Google’s Mobile Friendly Websites guide). Google Developers have created a platform for users to not only check to see if their websites qualifies for the upcoming update but provide very detailed step by step processes for multiple different  content management systems, or by their acronym, CMS ( WordPress, tumblr, blogger, Drupal) and how to make them mobile friendly.

Search Engine Land reports that the algorithm runs on a page by page basis, “So if you have 10 web pages on your web site and 5 of them are mobile-friendly and 5 are not, then only the pages that are mobile-friendly will benefit…Many websites have sub-sections or specialized pages that would be hard to make mobile-friendly, so webmasters do not need to fret about going 100% mobile-friendly by April 21st.’
