Search engine optimization, or SEO, is an important part of marketing any organization in the digital age. For private schools to get the enrollment and attention they deserve, it’s important to have an SEO strategy in place. Only 10% of all K-12 students in the U.S. are enrolled in private schools, but with an effective SEO campaign, those numbers could increase. If you’re in charge of marketing your school on the web, working with an SEO agency will ensure that potential students, parents, and others can find you. Our SEO agency can customize a campaign to fit all of your needs, but here are three SEO tips to get you started:
- Create original content This one’s at the top of the list for a reason. Original, useful content is one of the areas that Google really likes, which means that when you consistently produce content that people want to read, you’re likely to get a higher page ranking in search results. When you display higher in search results, people will be more likely to find — and click — on your website. Each page on your site should feature totally unique content that cannot be found in other areas of your site. Don’t duplicate content, as this can look spammy to Google. The more original content you have, the more Google has to work with and analyze. This is why your site should have a blog, too!
- Optimize titles and descriptions Links, page titles, and descriptions should all make sense for what visitors can find by clicking on them. Instead of an insanely long link filled with random characters, make sure all of your links have an obvious relationship to what’s on that page. For example, your staff page link should read something like “www.myschoolwebsite.com/staff,” rather than “www.myschoolwebsite.com/64387429pq8237tz.html.” The same concept goes for page titles and meta descriptions. Make sure they line up with what both visitors and Google will find on those parts of your site.
- Identify and use keywords Keywords can help organizations and visitors alike. Google uses these words to get a clear picture of what your website is about in order to produce good search results. An SEO agency can help you to zero in on the keywords you should be using for your industry and area. If you want to get a high ranking for “private schools in Atlanta, GA,” your SEO team will come up with similar words and other search phrases that can work in tandem with them. However, it’s important to not follow the practice of keyword stuffing. This looks spammy to Google and can hurt you in the long run. Use them wisely in your content. It should be a supplement to your content that helps people find you, rather than the majority of your content.
