The Most Important Web Design Question of 2013: Can Your Site Work Equally Well on All Devices?
Recently we looked at how tables and smart phones are radically transforming Web design. In fact, according to a recent survey, 2012 was the first year on record in which PC sales were lower than they were the year before.
This isn’t entirely good news for Web designers or small businesses. And that’s because a “one size fits all” approach to Web design will no longer work. Think about it: in the good old days (say, three years ago), designers knew their site would be viewed on either a PC or a Mac. They also knew what types of browsers would be used: Firefox, Explorer, Chrome, etc. Therefore, they could relatively easily design around any of these scenarios.
The emergence of tablets and smart phones complicates matters quite a bit, hence the new hip industry term “responsive Web design.” “Responsive Web design” is simple: it’s the idea that a Website works equally effectively on all devices.
